I’m a first-generation Canadian of Trinidadian descent who grew up in Montreal and moved to the U.S. for graduate school. In the U.S., I'm confronted with an American set of conditions within which I am expected to identify. Some days I’m black, some days I’m mixed; some days I’m Trinidadian, other days I’m Canadian--all days provide ample material for me to explore the subtle, and overt, aspects of race and identity in North America and beyond.
I write. I like art. I'm raising a person.
